Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader in Bio-Informatics/Phylogenetics

Queen Mary's 3,000 staff teach and research across a wide range of subjects in Science and Engineering, the Humanities, Social Sciences and Laws and Medicine and Dentistry.

Queen Mary has made a strategic commitment to the highest quality of world-class research across all its disciplines. As part of this strategy, we are now embarking on a 3 year programme of recruitment in the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences.  The School is recognised for its strong record in research and its large and popular graduate and undergraduate programmes.

Applications are invited for either a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader in Bioinformatics/Phylogenetics* The successful applicant will have a proven ability to conduct world-class research, the ability to maintain an internationally competitive research group and secure the funding to support this. Applicants will also have the ability to teach in relevant areas.

We encourage applicants that complement and enhance the existing research strengths (http://www.sbcs.qmul.ac.uk/research/index.html) of the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences.  These include:

behavioural and evolutionary biology the interface with other disciplines in the Life Sciences at Queen Mary

Expertise and interests in the following areas would also be an advantage:

computational phylogenetics and/or comparative genomicsand a track record in evolutionary biology

The post is full time and permanent starting in September 2011 or as soon as possible thereafter. The salary will be in the range of £37,669 - £55,479 per annum and will be in accordance with the appointment level, subject to experience and qualifications. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, childcare vouchers scheme, final salary pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
